People have been asking for a while now and we've been listening...and testing. We've been reticent, for sure. We wanted to be able to put a bike on the floor that we would ride ourselves, be happy to represent, and be able to support - now and for the foreseeable future.
The M-E1 combines the Shimano STEPS E6100 premium e-bike component system (motor, battery, & interface) with a new, purpose-built Montague frame. Shimano is a 100 year old company with a reputation for quality. While e-bikes and batteries are relatively new and still developing technologies, we are reasonably comfortable that we'll be able to provide service and, where needed, replace parts and batteries as the bike ages. While not as old a company, Montague has been making full-sized folding frames since 1987. We've been selling them since 2013 and have been so impressed with the overall quality and utility that we've become folding bike riders ourselves.
The bike itself is well-built with a nicely finished and solid easy-folding frame. The geometry is upright and comfortable. The ride is both zippy and sure. This is a premium e-bike: the comfort of a Dutch-style geometry, the utility of a full-sized folding frame, and the reliability of a Shimano motor and battery.
